Leg 1: Newcastle To win

Julen Lopetegui has had a torrid start to life in East London, winning just three of his opening 11 league games. His side are poor in attack and porous at the back, creating less than 1.0 xG in seven of their last nine league games, all whilst allowing 1.5+ xG in six of those same nine games.

Aside from beating Man United (who were 14th and sacked their manager a day after the game), they have managed only draws and the odd win against sides likely to be mired in the bottom half come the end of the season. Aston Villa, Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest have all comfortably dispatched the Hammers this season, and we expect Newcastle to join that list.

Although they have had a mixed start to the season, two straight wins over Arsenal and an impressive Forest side have restored some optimism on Tyneside. Eddie Howe’s men have beaten Southampton, Spurs, and Arsenal at home already, along with a 1-1 draw against Man City, so we expect them to have more than enough to beat a struggling West Ham side here.

Leg 2: Over 4.5 Cards

This could well be a card-laden affair at St James Park on Monday evening. The home side have seen just under six cards (5.81) per game so far this season, picking up 2.45 themselves and seeing their opponents booked 3.36 times per game. West Ham, meanwhile, have been the offenders much more frequently, seeing 2.64 cards per game whilst their opponents sit on 1.55 cards per game (4.19 cards per game in total).

Despite averaging just over four cards per game in the league, the Hammers have seen their games go over this line in seven of their last nine. Every game in which they have not exceeded the 4.5 card line saw the Hammers shown one or fewer cards. That bodes well for this selection, with Newcastle’s opponents being shown three or more cards in six of their last nine league games, and in four of their five home games.

Six of Newcastle’s last nine have seen five or more total cards shown, whilst four of their five home league games have hit this line. The referee for this one is Craig Pawson, who is averaging 4.63 cards per game this season.

Leg 3: Over 3.5 West Ham United Corners

Results may have been hard to come by for West Ham so far this season, but corners have not been. The Hammers have taken five or more corners in seven straight Premier League games, a run stretching back to September 21, and one which includes clashes with Chelsea, Tottenham, and Man United. Their last three away games have seen them pose 6, 5, and 6 corners respectively.

That run looks set to continue against a Newcastle side who have conceded the seventh-most corners of any Premier League side so far this season, at 6.27 per game, or 69 in 11 matches. Eddie Howe’s men have conceded at least four corners in 10 of their 11 league games this season, with only Everton failing to clear the over 3.5 line.

Every side to visit St James Park this season has had at least four corners. Brighton had four exactly, with the remaining four going well clear. Man City and Arsenal both had six corners, whilst Tottenham and Southampton took 12 apiece.

Leg 4: Emerson To Commit 1+ Fouls

Emerson has been a long price for a foul all season long, and it’s hard to see just why the bookies keep pricing him around this mark. The left-back has now fouled in eight of his 11 Premier League starts this season. Two of his last four starts in the Premier League have seen him commit multiple fouls, so he looks a good bet to continue that run here.

His average for the season sits at 1.26 fouls per 90, the fourth-most of any likely West Ham starters here. Even without discussing his matchup, this already looks like a great option for our bet builder, but it is only enhanced when you consider that he is going up against Anthony Gordon.

The Newcastle right-winger opened his international account during the international break and should be keen to pick up where he left off. He has won 2.77 fouls per 90 in the Premier League this season, second only to Bruno Guimaraes (4.13) in a Newcastle shirt. Gordon has been fouled at least once in all 11 of his starts for the club this season, so Emerson fouling here looks highly likely.
