Manchester United managed to pick up a point on the road at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League meeting between the arch-rivals as the entertaining game ended in a 2-2 draw.
United, who are languishing in the bottom half of the PL table held their own on enemy territory as goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo cancelled out strikes from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah for the table-toppers.
Ahead of the game, United boss Ruben Amorim rallied the senior players in the dressing room to provide guidance to the youngsters who were sometimes too anxious and afraid to get on the ball and demonstrate what they are capable of.
United full-back Diogo Dalot, who put in a shift at Anfield stated that his manager’s call resonated with him and that it acted as a filip to up he ante.
“It pinched me. I think that’s what he wanted for every player,” said Dalot.
“I’ve been here for a while. I know that I can step up a little bit more as well in that level and I’m going to try to help my teammates for as long as I can,” the Portuguese full-back added.
“As long as I’m on the pitch and outside the pitch, I will try to help them. You could see that we were more of a team. That was the biggest difference,” he continued.
Amorim has found it hard for positive results to come by ever since he took over at the helm of the Red Devils and cited time as the most crucial factor in his attempt to restructure the United lineup.
Dalot seconded Amorim’s opinion as he stated that time and repetition help in realising the manager’s vision as United look to settle into a rhythm the Portuguese boss demands of them.
“It’s training, it’s proper training, it’s time on the pitch, knowing what everybody wants to do, almost like trusting ourselves that everybody will be in the right position to play in every aspect of the game, in every inch of the pitch,” Dalot said.
“When you have time to know what to do, I think it becomes more natural. And you saw the structure was much more compact, probably a bit more playing almost like we knew that this player would be in that position,” he added.
