Leg 1: Newcastle To win

Ange Postecoglou’s side have won just one of their last 5 Premier League games, a 5-0 win away to a Southampton side that have accumulated just 6 points in 19 games this season. Prior to that, their last win in the league was on November 23, when they beat Man City 4-0.

Unusually, their form has actually been better on the road than on home soil lately. Spurs have failed to win any of their last 5 home league games, losing 3 of these 5. Liverpool and Chelsea put a combined 10 goals past the Lilywhites in their wins, whilst even 18th-placed Ipswich were able to secure a 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in November.

Newcastle are in fine form, heading into this game with a record of 4 straight Premier League wins to nil. Eddie Howe’s side have scored 13 goals in these 4 matches, all whilst keeping 4 clean sheets. The visitors have won the xG battle in 12 of their last 14 Premier League games, and are well worth backing at odds-against to take all three points here.

Leg 2: Anthony Gordon to have 1+ Shots on Target

We expect Newcastle to have the better of the chances in this game, and as such it makes sense to target Newcastle players in the shot markets. Fulham, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all had at least 6 shots on target in their recent clashes at this stadium, and Newcastle are more than capable of racking up similar tallies.

Anthony Gordon looks to offer great value in this market, with the left-winger averaging 2.01 shots per 90 in the Premier League, and converting these into 0.75 shots on target per 90.

Heading into this clash, Gordon has had at least one shot on target in 7 of his last 9 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, a run which dates back to October 10. After a mid-season dip in form for the England international, he looks to be back to his best, taking more shots and notching a goal or an assist in 3 of his last 4 league games.

Leg 3: Jacob Murphy to have 2+ Shots

Alexander Isak continues to grab the headlines when it comes to Newcastle’s forward line, but Jacob Murphy has been a real unsung hero throughout their impressive recent run.

Playing down the right flank, Murphy has firmly established himself as Eddie Howe’s first choice. Whilst his 4-game goal contribution streak may have come to an end against Man United last time out, we expect him to get plenty of chances to shoot against a Spurs defence missing a host of key players.

Murphy has had 2 or more shots in 5 of his 6 Premier League starts since the start of December, taking at least 3 in half of these games. He will fancy his chances here, with Spurs’ lack of options in defence meaning he will be up against 18-year-old Archie Gray at left-centre-back and Djed Spence at left-back. Injuries to Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie have left Gray playing out of position, whilst Spence had barely played a minute of first team football for the club before this injury crisis hit.

Leg 4: James Maddison To Commit 1+ Fouls

With the Newcastle midfield containing some of the Premier League’s most fouled players, it makes sense to look at their matchups in the foul markets, and James Maddison looks to offer excellent value here.

Excluding games in which Maddison played less than 20 minutes, he has fouled at least once in 12 of his 16 Premier League appearances this season. He has fouled once or more in 3 straight Premier League starts, and in 5 straight league games in which he played at least 15 minutes.

He will be facing off against the most-fouled player in the Premier League, with Bruno Guimaraes drawing 3.59 fouls per 90 in the division this season. The Brazilian has won fouls in every Premier League game this season, drawing at least 2 in 18 of his 19 starts.

Maddison will also be going up against Sandro Tonali, who draws 2.23 fouls per 90, whilst the final part of this Newcastle midfield trio, Joelinton, wins 1.14 fouls per 90. It would be surprising if the Spurs man is able to complete this game without fouling at least once.
