Bisht targeted women aged 18 to 30, creating fake profiles on platforms like Bumble and Snapchat using a photo of a Brazilian model and a virtual international mobile number.
A 23-year-old man from Delhi, Tushar Bisht, has been arrested for impersonating a US-based model on dating apps and social media to exploit and blackmail women. Bisht allegedly extorted money from his victims by threatening to leak their private photos and videos. According to the Delhi Police, he defrauded approximately 500 women, and several intimate visuals were recovered from his possession.
Bisht targeted women aged 18 to 30, creating fake profiles on platforms like Bumble and Snapchat using a photo of a Brazilian model and a virtual international mobile number. Posing as a US-based freelance model visiting India for a project, he engaged his victims in conversations, gradually gaining their trust. Once a connection was established, he manipulated them into sharing intimate images, which he later used for blackmail.
The scam came to light when a Delhi University student approached the police after falling victim to his scheme. The student explained that she had befriended Bisht on a dating platform, where he presented himself as a model from the US. Their online interaction developed into a close friendship, during which she shared personal pictures and videos, trusting his fabricated persona. Despite her repeated attempts to meet him in person, he always avoided meeting.
The situation escalated when the student received an intimate video of herself, sent by Bisht, who threatened to make it public unless she paid him money. Fearful of the repercussions, she complied but eventually sought help from her family and the police when the demands persisted.
Using technical evidence, the police tracked and arrested Bisht, who was employed by a private company in Noida. During interrogation, he confessed to targeting between 200 and 500 women and admitted to storing numerous intimate videos on his phone.
