Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has dropped a fresh hint about his future amid speculations tying him to Liverpool. The Swedish international has been a top performer for the Magpies this season, attracting interest from multiple top European sides. Isak, however, has now seemingly indicated that he is happy to stay at St James Park.
“Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the main dream that I’ve had,” he told Prime Video Sverige, as per Liverpool Echo. “Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with a fan base like they have here is extra special,” Isak added.
A few days into the January transfer window, there has been no shortage of speculation around Liverpool. The Telegraph had recently reported that if Liverpool failed to retain Mohammed Salah this season, they may turn their attention towards Alexander Isak. The same report claimed that Newcastle United were ‘relaxed’ about the situation as they had no interest in selling their star striker. They put a massive price tag of £150 million on the Sweden International. Isak has more than three years left on his contract that Newcastle United will be looking to extend in the summer of 2025.
Isak has developed into one of the most consistent goalscorers in Europe in the last two years. He has been previously linked with Chelsea who dropped their pursuit of the player after hearing the massive price tag. Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly still monitoring the player’s situation at St James Park. Isak endured a slow start to the 2024/25 season but successfully recovered his form as we moved deeper into the campaign. He has played 21 games for Newcastle United across competitions so far, scoring 14 times and providing four assists.
Another major signing Liverpool are trying to close this season is of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The Reds are reportedly looking to bolster their defence under Arne Slot with rumours of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk’s potential departure. The Times had reported that Premier League leaders are one of Kerez’s ‘admirers’. The report further claimed that Bournemouth won’t be willing to sanction the departure of their first-team players during the ongoing transfer window.
Liverpool currently find themselves in a complicated situation due to contract tussles with Salah, van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold. They will continue looking for options and secure some deals to add more firepower to the squad, especially if the star trio exit the club in the summer of 2025.
