New Zealand’s leading left-arm spinner and a seasoned campaigner, Mitchell Santner, has been named captain of the Kiwi white-ball side. Newly appointed after Kane Williamson left following the T20 World Cup, Santner is ready to bring a fresh look and a consistent touch to the Blackcaps.
Santner has represented New Zealand in 24 T20I and four ODIs as a substitute, so he has plenty of experience under his belt.

‘Obviously it’s an enormous honour and privilege to be asked,’ Santner said. “As a kid, it’s always been my dream to represent New Zealand, but to have that opportunity to represent my country in two formats is great. “It’s a fresh challenge and I’m looking forward to diving into the new era of white-ball cricket that we’re entering.”
Head coach Gary Stead thinks Santner is the perfect candidate for the job, citing his cool presence and leadership skills.
“Mitch is a phenomenal team player and takes pride in every facet of the game. He’s just such a calm and collected guy and he has so much respect in the changing room that he’s going to be fine,” Stead said.
