Harvey Elliott has been ruled out for a lengthy period with a fractured foot.
The Liverpool star pulled out of the England Under-21 squad last week after experiencing discomfort during training over the international break.
Now, with the full extent of the injury revealed, he is expected to be sidelined until late October.
And Liverpool fans are concerned Elliott’s absence will place pressure on Dominik Szoboszlai.
One wrote on X: “We are about to run Dominik Szoboszlai into the ground with the Harvey Elliott fractured foot news. Let’s just hope he stays fit man.”
“Harvey Elliott being injured is a big blow for Liverpool,” a second said. “LFC can’t start Szoboszlai every game or he’ll burn (perhaps like he did last season).
“Not only that, Elliott is a player who can see a pass. He’s such a useful player for LFC’s attackers.”
Despite a promising pre-season, Elliott has played only seven minutes this campaign.
He came on as a late substitute in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Brentford at Anfield and is considered a valuable squad player to ease pressure on Arne Slot’s midfield.
Jurgen Klopp‘s successor has opted to play Szoboszlai in the no. 10 role so far this season.
With his back up now unavailable, Slot will need to turn to other options should the Hungarian struggle with the busy schedule.
The 23-year-old missed 12 games last season due to a hamstring injury and will likely need his minutes managed this campaign.
However, Liverpool are now set to play seven matches in just three weeks, starting with Saturday’s home clash with Nottingham Forest.
Fans are already mooting the idea of moving Alexis Mac Allister into the 10, or bringing in Curtis Jones.
The latter recently returned to full training ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Forest.
He missed the last two matches due to a minor muscle problem.
Elliott, 21, has made 120 appearances for the Reds already.
He’s netted 10 times, grabbing 15 assists along the way too, and will likely be pushing to earn a starting spot in Slot’s side.
