The defending champion, Odisha FC Women (OFCW), is set to kick off its Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2024-25 season with an away fixture against Gokulam Kerala FC on Friday at the EMS Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala.
OFCW dominated the IWL 2023-24 season, finishing at the top of the table with 31 points from 12 matches. It recorded an impressive 10 wins and one draw, breaking Gokulam Kerala’s stranglehold on the league. Gokulam, with 29 points, had to settle for second place.
With four IWL titles to its name, Gokulam Kerala is historically the most successful team in Indian women’s football.
Last year, OFCW made history by qualifying for the AFC Women’s Champions League within just two years of its inception. Its journey included hard-fought victories against champions from Singapore and Jordan, securing a spot in the AFC tournament group stage.

Despite its efforts, OFCW faced tough competition in the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25, where it finished the group stage in last place without registering a point.
Eight teams will be participating in the 2024-25 edition of the IWL: Odisha FC, East Bengal, Sethu FC, Sreebhumi FC, Nita FC, Kickstart FC, Gokulam Kerala, and HOPS FC.
Sreebhumi and Nita FC are the two teams promoted from Indian Women’s League 2.
56 matches in more than three months will take place in eight venues across the country to determine the champion, who will also have the golden opportunity to represent India at the 2025-26 AFC Women’s Champions League.
