FASTag mandatory for all vehicles in Maharashtra from April 1

The Maharashtra Cabinet has announced that FASTag stickers will be mandatory for all vehicles in the state starting April 1. The government also plans to amend the Public-Private Partnership Policy, 2014, to streamline infrastructure development and toll collection under the new directive.

Officials said the move aims to promote digital payments and reduce congestion at toll booths, enhancing efficiency across the state’s road network.

FASTag has become essential for simplifying toll payments and reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas. However, these changes will impact users significantly.

Earlier, on April 1, 2024, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) rolled out the ‘<a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/business/story/one-vehicle-one-fastag-nhai-kyc-rbi-guidelines-all-you-need-to-know-2522167-2024-04-02?utm_source=global-search&utm_medium=global-search&utm_campaign=global-search” target=”_self”>One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative.

This initiative of NHAI aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle.

NHAI decided to launch this initiative due to recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for the same vehicle and issuance of FASTags without completing the mandatory KYC process, violating the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
