lEG 1: aRSENAL to win THE fiRST haLF
Mikel Arteta’s side are a strong first half team and have been winning at the interval in 8 Premier League games this season. They’ve only been behind twice at the 45 minute mark and their record in the Champions League is also strong, winning at the interval in all the games they’ve eventually taken 3 points from. Arsenal are the sort of side that when they win, they tend to dominate right from the off. The Gunners have become a good team to back in a favourable situation.
They unusually came unstuck against Everton recently and were held to a 0-0 draw, but facing a newly promoted team Ipswich will come under pressure straight from the get go. The visitors have been behind on 6 occasions at half time this season and only been leading on three occasions, so have been slow out of the blocks.
LEG 2: kAI hAVERTZ tO score oR aSSIST
Havertz has been in great form since the most recent international break. In his last seven matches for club and country he’s scored five times and supplied four assists. His actual position on any given day is difficult to predict because he can drift between being a shadow striker or a false nine. But he definitely has the dual threat of either scoring or assisting wherever he lines up.
The German international will be confident after a good run of games so this is a great market to back him in. He’s only blanked with this type of bet in 2 of his last 7 Arsenal fixtures and facing a struggling promoted team you have to expect him to be involved in at least one goal.
Leg 3: lEIF dAVIS tO bE foULED 1+ tiMES
Arsenal average the 9th most fouls in the Premier League and Mikel Arteta regularly has his attacking players press hard such as Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey. Ipswich left back Leif Davis is one of the most fouled players in his team and looks like a good piece to add to a bet builder to be fouled once or more at the Emirates Stadium. There are two different phases in which he might win a cheap free kick, either when Arsenal pressurize him at the back or when he ventures forward to contribute in attack.
Davis is fouled 1.10 times per 90 mins and despite Ipswich being a significant underdog there’s reasons to suggest he can draw the foul at some stage.
Leg 4: Thomas partEY to bE foULED 1+ tIMES
It’s perhaps gone under the radar that Ipswich average the fourth most fouls in the Premier League this season (12.20). Several Arsenal players could become foul magnets in this game but looking away from the obvious candidates could pay dividends. Thomas Partey has drawn exactly one foul per 90 mins in the Premier League this season and there’s no reason why the dynamic Ghanian can’t win at least one free kick here.
Sam Morsy is suspended for Ipswich but the likes of Jens Cajuste or a returning Kalvin Phillips may well get stuck in to the midfield area in which Partey will be operating. He has been more offensive this season and in a better rhythm. His physicals and technical skills make him an ideal candidate to be fouled and this is a nice price to add to your bet builder.
