As Delhi assembly polls draw near, all three accused of Delhi riots 2020 are likely to contest the elections. Ishrat Jahan, one of the accused in the riots, may obtain a Congress ticket.
Furthermore, Shah Rukh Pathan, touted as a “poster boy” of infamous Delhi riots, is likely to get an AIMIM ticket to contest the assembly polls. Notably, the party has previously fielded Tahir Hussain, another accused in the riot case, to contest from Jafrabad – located in north-east Delhi.
Currently lodged in jail, Shah Rukh Pathan is accused in two cases linked with the Delhi riots – one pertains to pointing a gun at a policeman and another is in connection with conspiring to murder an individual named Rohit Shukla.
AIMIM leader Shoaib Jamai has stated that the party will grant a ticket to the accused if his family wants.
Moreover, the Congress is likely to field Ishrat Jahan from the Okhla constituency. According to sources, Congress MP and LoP in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has pitched for Jahan.
She is the daughte-in-law of former MLA and Rajya Sabha MP Parvez Hashmi. She was arrested in connection with the Delhi riots in 2020- which claimed over 50 lives.
