NEW DELHI: As exit polls projected a BJP comeback in Delhi after 27 years, political leaders across parties reacted sharply, questioning the accuracy of the poll predictions.
‘Exit polls have underestimated AAP’: Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit
Congress leader and Kejriwal’s rival from New Delhi seat, Sandeep Dikshit dismissed the exit poll projections, arguing that they did not accurately reflect the ground reality.
“As per the exit polls, the BJP may form the government, but I think they have underestimated the AAP. They have presented the AAP as very weak, but I don’t think their condition would be so bad,” Dikshit said.
He also claimed that Congress would secure a much higher vote share than predicted. “I am also disappointed in the exit polls; the Congress would have easily received 17-18 percent of the votes,” he added, asserting that the real picture would be clear on February 8.
‘Exit polls come and go, AAP will come to power’: Sena UBT’s Sanjay Raut
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut rejected the exit poll predictions, citing past instances where pre-election surveys failed to match the actual results.
“Exit polls come and go. We also saw Maharashtra and Haryana exit polls; it looked like we were going to form the government. Things will be clear at 10am on February 8,” Raut said.
He further expressed confidence in AAP’s victory. “The final decision will be out on February 8. The Exit Polls said that MVA will win in Maharashtra and Congress will win in Haryana… We are sure that the BJP will not win in Delhi and the AAP will come to power,” he added.
‘Exit polls are premature’: Swati Maliwal
AAP leader Swati Maliwal remained hopeful about the election results and criticised the BJP’s governance in the national capital.
“People of Delhi are well aware, and I am fully confident that they have voted for people who can actually work for Delhi. Exit polls are premature; we should wait for the results. Exit polls may be right or wrong,” she told ANI.
Maliwal also attacked the BJP, saying, “Delhi has become a dustbin, and the city is in its worst state as of now.”
‘AAP’s vote share always more than that shown in exit polls’: Saurabh Bhardwaj
Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj expressed confidence in AAP’s chances, saying that exit polls had consistently underestimated the party in past elections.
“We have fought three elections in Delhi, and this is the fourth assembly election we are fighting. In 2013 and 2015, exit polls showed we would be defeated. In 2020, we got more seats than predicted. This time too, it is being shown that we will get fewer seats,” Bhardwaj said.
He dismissed the exit polls as inaccurate, arguing that voters were afraid to speak openly under BJP rule. “BJP always silences common people’s voices, so they don’t speak out of fear. AAP’s vote share is always more than that shown in exit polls,” he added.
Exit poll predictions
The exit polls varied in their predictions, with some projecting a clear BJP victory and others showing a close contest.

- Matrize: BJP 35-40, AAP 32-37, Congress 1
- People’s Pulse: BJP 51-60, AAP 10-19, Congress 0
- People’s Insight: BJP 40-44, AAP 25-29, Congress 0-1
- WeePreside: AAP 46-52, BJP 18-23, Congress 0-1
Votes will be counted on February 8. AAP has dominated the last two Delhi Assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats in 2020, while BJP secured eight. Congress has failed to win a single seat in the last two elections.
