While Black Friday is often considered the busiest shopping day of the year, new data shows that wasn’t the case for the video game industry in 2022. According to GfK, physical video game sales fell 15% compared to Black Friday last year.
Unfortunately, GfK doesn’t have data for digital video game sales at this time. However, software sales in 2021 were down 10% compared to 2020.
The best-selling boxed game during the week of Black Friday was FIFA 23, which saw sales increase by 95%. It also helps that the game’s price was reduced and that it was included in hardware bundles.
Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was the second best-selling game during the week ending on November 26th. Pokémon Violet fell from first place to third while Pokémon Scarlet placed sixth on the list.
