Sunday’s european accumulator selections

Accumulator

AC Milan v Inter Milan

2nd February
kick off 17:00
Over 2.5 Inter Milan cards

Much to Inter’s frustration, AC Milan have been the dominant force in the Derby della Madonnina this season, earning victories and local bragging rights in each of the rivals’ first two encounters of the current campaign.
Milan beat Inter 2-1 in Serie A in September before besting their neighbours 3-2 in the Italian Super Cup in Saudia Arabia earlier this month and as you’d expect, both skirmishes were played with an edge.
Indeed, the Derby della Madonnina has been one of Italian football’s most card-laden fixtures for decades, so bettors should expect referee Daniele Chiffi to be overworked on Sunday.

Ten yellow cards were brandished across AC Milan and Inter’s last two tussles combined, though it was the bristly Nerazzurri who collected more, accounting for 80% of those cautions in total.

In both of those meetings earlier in the campaign, AC Milan’s pace on the counter-attack stretched Inter’s defensive shape on turnovers, drawing defenders into ill-timed challenges on more than one occasion and the pattern of Sunday’s game could be similar.

With that in mind, backing Inter to earn over 2.50 cards again at close to even money (10/11) looks like a strategy with serious potential.

Bayer Leverkusen v Hoffenheim

2nd February
kick off 16:30
Over 2.5 goals

Hoffenheim exited the Europa League in a blaze of glory on Thursday evening when they battled their way to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Anderlecht in Belgium, though their prospects of outgunning Bayer Leverkusen in similar style seem slim.

Hoffenheim’s last four meetings with Leverkusen averaged a lofty 5.00 goals per game and while Die Kraichgauer contributed to the entertainment on each occasion, they lost each time and Sunday’s clash could follow that trend.

80% of Bayer Leverkusen’s home games in the Bundesliga this season have seen over 2.50 goals while a further 60% of their matches at the BayArena have gone over 3.50, and betters should look to the goal markets again here.

Hoffenheim were taken apart by Bayern Munich (0-5) when they visited the league leaders two weeks ago and they could be torn to shreds just as convincingly when they travel to take on another title challenger in Leverkusen.

Braver punters might be tempted to back over 3.5 goals here at 2.00, however, the over 2.5 goal line also offers decent value at 1.36 as an accumulator leg.

Rennes v Stratsbourg

2nd February
kick off 16:30
Strasbourg double chance

We drift over to France for the final leg of our three-fold, where in-form Strasbourg look underpriced in the double chance markets to claim at least a point at Rennes.

Rennes are in the midst of their worst run of the campaign and their 3-2 loss at Monaco last weekend was their fifth defeat on the spin in league and cup.

Les Dogues conceded a whopping 3.50 in XGA and 20 attempts in that loss in the Principality and with key defenders Alidu Seidu and Lorenz Assignon injured and suspended respectively this weekend, their backline could be too easy to breach again.

An improving Strasbourg side look primed to take advantage of their host’s plight. Liam Rosenior’s youthful outfit enjoyed a 2-1 win over Champions League side Lille in their last assignment to prolong a purple patch of six wins and two draws in their last eight fixtures.

Strasbourg managed to extract seven points from their last three Ligue 1 tests on the road, while their early-season 3-1 triumph over Rennes in the clubs’ reverse fixture could provide a blueprint for more success on Sunday.

The visitors can be backed an attractive 1.73 in the double chance market to push their unbeaten surge to nine games at Rennes’ expense.
