Steven and Ryan Sessegnon, the twin footballers, are set to make history as they are expected to face each other in the FA Cup fourth round where Wigan host Fulham on Saturday. Ryan had returned to Fulham on a two-year deal after his contract expired at Tottenham last year. He joined Tottenham in a £25 million deal in August 2019. His spell at Tottenham did not turn out to be a memorable one as he suffered from injury-related issues. Ryan managed to make 57 appearances for the side. He had spent the 2020-21 season on loan at German football club Hoffenheim. During his first stint with the Cottagers, Ryan scored 25 goals and registered 18 assists in 120 senior appearances.

Steven Sessegnon, on the other hand, moved to Wigan in August 2023. Steven earned 19 first-team appearances for Fulham. Steven has not been in action in recent times and he did not play since January 4 because of a knee injury.

“It’s going to be very strange. Ryan is my twin and the game is against my former club. It’s going to be exciting for all the family,” left-back Steven Sessegnon, the older brother told BBC Sport. “My mum and dad get nervous just watching one of us play. I don’t think they will be able to handle both of us on the same pitch at the same time,” he added.

Here we take a look at five other instances when brothers faced each other during a match:

  • Kevin Prince and Jerome Boateng: While Kevin Prince played for Ghana, Jerome played for Germany and the two faced each other during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
  • Gary and Phil Neville: The duo played against each other while Gary Neville captained Manchester United and his brother Phil led Everton.
  • Kolo and Yaya Toure: Kolo Toure and Yaya played together for Manchester City. They even faced each other when Kolo left Manchester City to join Liverpool.
  • Granit and Taulant Xhaka: While Granit Xhaka opted to play for Switzerland, his brother Taulant represented Albania. They were up against each other at the Euro in 2016.
  • Will and Michael Keane: In 2016, the Keane brothers became the first twins to play against each other in the Premier League.
