NDSU vs Montana State Prediction & Updated Odds

History will be made in the FCS Championship when the North Dakota State Bison (13-2, 7-1 Missouri Valley) take on the Montana State Bobcats (15-0, 8-0 Big Sky). The Bobcats will look to complete a perfect season, while the Bison could become the first school to win 10 FCS national titles.

These are the top two teams in the FCS, and the books are treating it accordingly. Here is a look at the updated odds, plus my NDSU vs Montana State prediction for Monday.

NDSU vs Montana State Odds

The Bobcats are slight 3-point favorites, with the total set at 58.5 points.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm ET  at Toyota Stadium Frisco, Texas, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Montana State Looks To Run Wild

These teams have hardly been challenged en route to the title showdown. The No. 1-seeded Bobcats crushed both UT Martin and Idaho by 30+ points, and topped South Dakota 31-17 in the semifinals.

Montana State is the top-scoring team in FCS, pumping out 41.3 points per game, and they do their damage by running wild on the opposition.

They ranked second in the FCS this year, churning out a monster 3001.4 yards per contest, led by the best running back duo in the nation.

Stud back Scottre Humphrey led the team with 1,360 rushing yards and 15 TDs on the season, followed closely by teammate Adam Jones, who rushed for 1,114 yards and 14 TD’s.

If that’s not enough, quarterback Tommy Mellott ran for 915 yards and 14 TD’s, while also throwing 2,588 yards and 29 touchdowns, against just two interceptions.

Bison Trying to Throw Their Way to Title

North Dakota State is no slouch on offense. The no. 2 seed in the tournament ranks third in FCS scoring, filling it up to the tune of 38.3 points per game.

The Bison do their damage through the air, as they led the FCS with the best passing efficiency. They’re led by quarterback Cam Miller, who has thrown for 3,052 yards and 31 TD’s, both career highs in his senior year.

Miller’s favorite target was receiver Bryce Lance, who had 66 grabs for 946 yards and 16 touchdowns.

NDSU does have a complimentary run game to support the pass, as CharMar Brown has rushed for 1,104 yards on a healthy 4.9 average and 14 scores.

They cruised to the final with 20+ point wins over Abilene Christian and Mercer, while beating South Dakota State 28-21 in the Final Four.

If you’re wondering about D, both are Top 10 scoring defenses in the FCS. Montana State allows just 17.1 points per game, with North Dakota State trailing closely at 17.7.

However, defense might only be useful in getting a key stop here or there, as the offenses are that good. In that instance, the Bison lead the FCS in turnover margin at +19, with Montana State a respectable +8.

Montana State has been a force all year, scoring at least 30 points in every game this season, and all but one of their FCS matchups has seen a difference of 14 or more points.

But North Dakota State is a championship regular, and will provide the Bobcats their toughest opponent of the season.

The last time these teams went head-to-head was in last year’s second round of the playoffs, where NDSU outlasted Montana State 35-34 in overtime.
