lEG 1: Over 8.5 Man City Corners
No Premier League side has taken more corners per game than Man City this season, notching 8.10, or 162 corners in 20 league games this season. With only one other side (Tottenham, 159) having taken more than 132 corners in the top flight this season, that shows just how dominant City have been on the corner front.
Pep Guardiola’s side have a high corner line to beat here, but the wide gulf in quality should ensure that they are able to do so. They are averaging 8.64 corners per game at home this season, taking 9 or more corners in 6 of their 13 games at the Etihad. They have also had at least 8 corners in a further 5 games.
Their only previous game against lower-league opposition came in the Third Round of the FA Cup, where City took 10 corners in a 2-1 win over Watford.
Salford, meanwhile have conceded an average of 5.42 corners across their 12 away games in League Two this season. That is the 10th most of any side in the league, which is much higher than you would expect for a side sitting in 3rd place in the table..
Leg 2: Matheus Nunes To Have 1+ Shots On Target
After what was by far the best spell of his Man City career, Mateus Nunes has again been frozen out of contention following his enormous error in the Manchester derby at the Etihad in mid-December, conceding the penalty that allowed United to equalise. He will likely be given another chance here, and we think he offers great value in the shots markets.
Nunes has taken at least one shot in 9 of his 12 starts for Man City in all competitions, and notched a shot on target in 4 of these games. Unlike most City games however, he is likely to be one of the more senior players on the pitch and will have to take on additional attacking responsibility.
Nunes did this to great effect against Watford earlier this season, scoring his first City goal in that Third Round EFL Cup clash, and taking a huge 6 shots, 4 of which were on target. The Portugal international also had 2 shots on target in his only other cup appearance of the season, away to Spurs in October. In fact, when excluding Premier League starts, Nunes has hit the target in 4 of his 6 starts for City this season.
Leg 3: James McAtee To Commit 1+ Fouls
James McAtee has become something of the forgotten man at Man City this season, unable to earn even a few minutes at the end of games despite the horrendous form of the reigning Premier League champions.
Perhaps because he is given such limited game time, McAtee’s work rate when he does play for City can never be called into question, which helps to explain why his foul numbers are so high despite being an attacking midfielder. He snaps into challenges and presses hard, leading to an average of 1.71 fouls per 90 in all competitions so far this season.
The 22-year-old has started just 3 times in all competitions this season, and has fouled in 2 of these games, along with fouling at least once in 3 of his 6 substitute appearances.
McAtee is likely to be up against Salford’s Ossama Ashley, who wins 1.45 fouls per 90 in League Two, and Tyrese Fornah, who wins 0.75 fouls per 90. Ashley has won fouls in 6 of his last 8 starts, including 4 fouls in his last 2 starts, whilst Fornah has drawn a foul in 3 of his last 4.
Leg 4: Haji Mnoga To Commit 2+ Fouls
Backing Jack Grealish to be fouled is nearly always a good play, with the England international drawing 3.05 fouls per 90 in all competitions for Man City this season. However, at the short price of 1.53 to be fouled 3 or more times, we can instead find better value in backing his matchup to commit fouls.
Grealish is expected to go up against Salford’s Haji Mnoga, who commits 2.66 fouls per 90 in League Two. Mnoga has fouled 9 times in his last 2 starts for the club, fouling 4 times against Harrogate and 5 times against MK Dons.
In 7 games whilst playing down the right, Mnoga has fouled twice or more in 5, with 3 of these 5 seeing 3 or more fouls committed. He has also made 4 starts as a wide centre-back this season, fouling twice or more in 2 of these.
Essentially, when out wide and forced to defend, Mnoga commits plenty of fouls, and with one of the best foul-winners in the Premier League playing down the same flank, two fouls looks easily achievable.
