Leg 1: Liverpool To win

It is hard to ignore the possibility of backing Liverpool to win any game at Anfield when they are odds-against, even against an opponent like Man City. By contrast, Man City look like they’re in real trouble. They have now failed to win any of their last 6 games in all competitions, with their last 2 games seeing them lose 4-0 at home to Tottenham and throw away a 3-0 lead with just 15 minutes to play to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord. City are struggling with injuries, with several players playing whilst not fully fit, and they look completely devoid of confidence.

Leg 2: Man City Goalkeeper To Make 3+ Saves

We’ve already spoken about Man City’s poor form, but their recent defensive struggles allow us to target them in areas where they would not traditionally be a viable choice. They have required at least two saves from their goalkeeper in all 6 of the games during their winless streak, with 3 or more needed in 3 of those 6.

They have allowed 5 or more shots on target in 5 of these 6, whilst Spurs had 7 shots on target in both of their clashes with City. Across the season so far, Man City’s keeper has made an average of 2.25 saves per game in the Premier League.

These numbers are not likely to decline against a rampant Liverpool side. Arne Slot’s side have forced at least 3 saves in 16 of their 19 games in all competitions this season, with 10 of their 12 league games seeing at least 3 saves made by the opponent’s goalkeeper. Both games in which this line was not hit came in games away from home, at Man United and Arsenal.

Leg 3: Kevin De Bruyne To Have 2+ Shots

Only Erling Haaland has averaged more shots per 90 (5.08) for Man City in the Premier League this season than Kevin De Bruyne’s 3.72. The Belgium international has not played much this season thanks to injuries, but he looks set to be thrown in at the deep end with City desperate for a result.

Erling Haaland has not traditionally had much success against Liverpool, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate having the power and defensive nous to counter the Norwegian’s main strengths. We should expect similar here, which puts even more pressure on De Bruyne to break down a robust Liverpool defence, which should mean more shots from the Belgian.

He has started 7 games this season, 5 for Man City and 2 for Belgium and De Bruyne has taken at least 2 shots in all 7 of these games. He took 2 shots against Chelsea away from home on the opening weekend and 4 shots away against France in the Nations League, likely his toughest games in 2024/25. He has also managed to have 3 or more shots in 5 of these 7.

LEG 4: Mohamed Salah To Be Fouled 1+ Times

Mo Salah is a ridiculously high price to be fouled here, with the Egyptian winger having been fouled 1.71 times per 90 in the Premier League this season. Only Ryan Gravenberch (24) has been fouled more times than Salah’s 20. Despite this, Salah can be backed to be fouled just once at 1.50.

He has been fouled in 8 of his last 9 Liverpool starts in all competitions, including the last 6 straight. In just his last 5 games for Liverpool, Salah has been fouled twice or more on 4 occasions, with the Egypt international drawing 11 fouls in those 5 games.

He will come up against Josko Gvardiol, who looks to be feeling the burden of playing with a defence full of half-injured players. The Croatian has had a tough couple of weeks, making several mistakes in the game against Tottenham, before his calamitous backpass allowed Feyenoord to get back into the game in midweek.

The last thing he needs is to face Mo Salah at the top of his game, but that is what awaits him on Sunday. With Gvardiol fouling at least once in 6 of his last 7 starts for Man City, Salah to be fouled once looks highly likely.
