Rotherham vs Burton Albion

Roterham to win

Whilst Rotherham have had a poor start to the season, they are creating chances and they should have won more games. Perhaps not to the degree manager Steve Evans says they should every time they don’t win, but there is a grain of truth in what he’s saying.

Rotherham rank third for big chances created but first for big chances missed. It’s only a matter of time before they start winning and I fancy that to come this weekend against a Burton side who are still figuring it out this season.

Burton have a new coach, a new way of playing, and 20+ new players. It’s going to take time and will play into the reason why they’re yet to win a league game this season.

Crawley vs Stockport

Stockport to win

This tie pits two promoted sides against one another. Most predicted that Crawley would struggle in League One, whilst many labelled Stockport as ones to watch.

I’m going with the ones to watch to win this game, just because I look at their team and it’s pretty stacked. They have arguably the best player in the league in Louis Barry, Oli Norwood is there, Lewis Bate was an academy phenomenon, and GK Corey Addai put up absurd underlying numbers last season. It’s already a very very good League One squad in the hands of serial winner Dave Challinor.

Crawley on the other hand, whilst not suffering a terrible start by any means, feel a bit more unsettled. Lots of top players have left, they’d made some good signings but there are also some risks coming in. They have a really good coach in Scott Lindsay, and as I mentioned they’ve not had a terrible start, but they have lost their last three and the strength of Stockport’s squad should be enough to get the win here.

Shrewbsury vs Charlton

Charlton To win

Last time I went against Shrewsbury, they battered Leyton Orient 3-0. You’d think I’ve learnt my lesson, right? I’m backing them to lose again, I’m just not convinced by them at all.

I think they won’t pose much of a threat to any decent defensive side they come up against. I can see Charlton, with Nathan Jones at the helm, going 1-0 up and completely shutting the game down and being happy to sit on that.

Charlton have Luke Berry, Matt Godden, Dan Potts, Allan Campbell, and Greg Docherty. These are all veteran Championship players that will know how to get the job done here.

Ahadme needs a goal though, just anything. He’s getting in the right places and working hard, but just can’t score. There’s no better time to do it than this weekend to get an away win.

Reading vs Lleyton Orient

14th September

Reading to win

In my circle, there’s a saying “never bet against Reading” due how good they are and have been under Selles, and people underestimating just how good they’ve been in the situation they’ve been in.

Reading are a young vibrant attacking team with speed and goals all over the pitch. Leyton Orient, well, aren’t, despite having some really good players for the level and a manager in Richie Wellens who no doubt will get a Championship job (Selles will end up in the Prem).

Orient have had a tough start to this season, despite their performances being fine. But the keeper situation can’t be ignored. Hemmings has chucked some howlers into his net, and centre backs have been running into each other.

They did sign a young Spurs GK on loan, but how many defeats does it take for the good performances to lose confidence and you keep losing until something drastically changes. A 3-0 away defeat to Shrewsbury is very alarming.
