Riot games has made the most controversial decision to remove Level Up Capsules and Hextech Chests, which have been a vital component to unlocking new champions for League of Legends. Because of this, many players in the LoL community are rightfully upset at this new change as Riot pushes out their new battle pass. Here’s everything we know about this new change.
Getting New Champions Is Now More Difficult
Previously, League of Legends used to offer players capsules and Hextech chests containing Champion Shards and Blue Essence, both of which can be used to unlock Champions on the roster for free. Key fragments are also an earnable crafting resource to unlock Hextech Chests and gain more free rewards.
The recent change to progression has essentially taken the old level-up reward scheme away, and all earned Shards are far more difficult to convert into Permanents. According to this Reddit user, using the battle pass to get one Champion takes around 882 hours to obtain, especially since capsules give random Champion Shards. Players are effectively forced to grind out each seasonal battle pass to unlock more Champions. Consequently, due to the removal of Level Up Capsules, XP boosts have also been severely devalued since players can no longer get rewards for increasing their Summoner level.
It seems that after this patch, it will take 882 hours to get a new hero for free。

Better Battle Passes In Other games
The League of Legends community has been calling out Riot games for their low-value battle pass rewards, especially when compared to other live service games such as Fortnite and Marvel Rivals. The biggest argument to both games is that not only do they offer skins, but they also return premium in-game currencies back like V-bucks and Lattice to make subsequent battle pass purchases cheaper.
Another complaint is the fact that Prestige skins aren’t selectable and are only made for one specific Champion. Players usually select a small number of Champions to use in matches, which devalues these skins.
