Harmanpreet Kaur explains how WPL 2025 will play a key role in India’s ODI World Cup preparations

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has underscored the significance of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in shaping the team’s preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India later this year. Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Harmanpreet expressed confidence that the WPL 2025 will provide Indian players with a crucial platform to refine their skills and enhance their fitness levels ahead of the global tournament.

WPL 2025 schedule and format

The five-team WPL is set to take place from February 14 to March 15, 2025, across four cities in India. The tournament will feature 20 league matches and two knockout games, offering players ample opportunities to showcase their talent and gain valuable match experience. Notably, Mumbai Indians (MI) will begin their campaign on February 15 against Delhi Capitals (DC).

Harmanpreet Kaur’s vision for Team India

Harmanpreet emphasized the importance of the WPL and the subsequent break. She reckoned the WPL will serve as a crucial platform for Indian players to refine their skills, while the subsequent break after the tournament will provide an excellent opportunity to focus on improving fitness levels. Harmanpreet emphasized that this gap will allow the team to dedicate time and effort to self-improvement, ultimately strengthening their readiness for the World Cup.

“I think this WPL is going to play a very big role because this year we have the ODI World Cup. After the WPL, we have a very good window where we can work on our fitness and raise our fitness level. I think that gap will really help us to work really hard on ourselves,” said Harmanpreet.
