Brandon Diez vs. Jesus Ruvio

Day 1 of YCS Anaheim is nearly at its end, but there’s still Dueling to be had! We have Brandon Diez, a Utah Duelist, here with Time Thief Ryzeal! He’s facing Jesus Ruvio, from here in California, with a Fiendsmith Yubel Deck! This is one of the newest strategies up against one of the best from before the release of Crossover Breakers!

Duel 1

Ruvio won the roll and played first. He began with the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver to add Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand, and used that to find and discard Fabled Lurrie. He Special Summoned Lurrie, then Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Requiem brought Lacrima the Crimson Tears to the field, which sent another Engraver to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned an Engraver by returning Lurrie to the Deck. He equipped Requiem to Engraver, then used both cards to play Necroquip Princess. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Sequence, and it fused Requiem and Engraver into Aerial Eater. That sent Samsara D Lotus to the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Muckraker From the Underworld, which revived Lotus with its effect. Lotus’s effect brought Spirit of Yubel to the field, which Set Nightmare Pain on the field. He flipped up Pain, then returned Lotus from the Graveyard and Spirit of Yubel from his hand to his Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel. He used Pain to destroy his on-field Spirit and find Gruesome Grave Squirmer, and Spirit’s effect Special Summoned Yubel. He Special Summoned Squirmer, destroying Yubel. Yubel’s effect then Special Summoned Yubel – Terror Incarnate. He used Terror Incarnate and Squirmer to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama, which put Unchained Soul of Sharvara into his hand. He banished Squirmer from the Graveyard to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel. Then he destroyed Spirit to Special Summon Sharvara, and Spirit’s effect Special Summoned a new Yubel. He used Yubel and Yama to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. He revived Aerial Eater by banishing Necroquip and Terror Incarnate. He used Aerial Eater and Sharvara to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar! He Set one card to finish the turn.

Diez had Forbidden Droplet, Triple Tactics Talent, Bonfire, Time Thief Winder, and Sword Ryzeal. He drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, unfortunately late to the party. He played Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned it by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Aggregator’s effect negated Nightmare Pain, and Ext put Node Ryzeal in Diez’s hand. He Special Summoned Sword to add Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He stacked both monsters for Evilswarm Exciton Knight! He Normal Summoned Ice and activated its effect, and Ruvio Chained Unchained Soul of Rage targeting Exciton Knight. Diez Chained Forbidden Droplet, sending Ice to the Graveyard, and then Chained the effect of Exciton Knight now that he had less cards. Ruvio flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate Exciton Knight’s effect! Droplet negated Unchained Soul of Rage, and finally, Ice’s effect brought another Sword Ryzeal to the field. He followed that up with Triple Tactics Talent to steal Caesar! He detached Ext Ryzeal from Exciton to Special Summon Time Thief Winder, which added Time Thief Bezel Ship to his hand. He used Winder and Sword Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal. He used Node’s effect, sending Bezel Ship to the Graveyard to Special Summon Sword. Then he detached Aerial Eater from the stolen Caesar to Special Summon Bezel Ship. He used Sword, Node, and Bezel Ship to Xyz Summon Primathmech Laplacian! He used its effect, detaching all its materials, and Diez Chained the effect of Phantom of Yubel to change the effect. It destroyed a Spirit of Yubel, and Diez negated Spirit’s effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Diez used Duo Drive’s effect, detaching both materials to add Ryzeal Plasma Hole and Ryzeal Plugin to his hand. He moved Caesar to Attack Position and headed to the Battle Phase. Ruvio activated the effect of Lacrima in the Graveyard to Special Summon Sequence and soak up some of the damage he was about to take. Laplacian destroyed Muckraker, and Ruvio’s Yama activated in the Graveyard, but Diez activated Caesar’s effect to negate it, detaching Sharvara. Sharvara’s effect put Abominable Chamber of the Unchained on Ruvio’s field. Duo Drive attacked Unchained Soul of Rage, and Caesar attacked Sequence. After all this, Ruvio was down to 4100 Life Points. Diez Set Plugin and Plasma Hole, and Caesar returned to Ruvio’s side with no materials left.

Ruvio Special Summoned Engraver, putting Sequence back in the Extra Deck. He used Engraver to Link Summon Requiem, and that Special Summoned Lacrima. Lacrima sent another Engraver to the Graveyard with its effect. He returned Yubel and Spirit of Yubel to the Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel. He used Lacrima and Caesar to Link Summon Sequence, and Diez flipped Plasma Hole to destroy Sequence before it could activate its effect. Ruvio played Fiendsmith’s Tract to get Fabled Lurrie and discard it, then Special Summoned it. He banished two Engravers from the Graveyard to Special Summon Aerial Eater from the Graveyard. He moved to the Battle Phase, sending Phantom to attack Duo Drive and reflect the damage with Nightmare Pain. Aerial Eater destroyed Laplacian next. In Main Phase 2, he used Aerial Eater to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis, activating its effect. Diez Chained Plasma Hole’s effect in the Graveyard, letting him use Duo Drive to play his own TY-PHON. Ruvio’s TY-PHON’s effect resolved, returning Diez’s to the Extra Deck.

Diez drew Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He flipped Plugin in the Draw Phase, reviving Sword Ryzeal and attaching Ext Ryzeal to Exciton Knight. He activated Sword’s effect to put Ice Ryzeal in his hand. He activated Exciton Knight’s effect, and Ruvio used Phantom of Yubel to change the effect and destroy Spirit of Yubel from his Deck. That let him Special Summon Yubel. Diez Normal Summoned Ice, using it to Special Summon Ext. Ext added another Sword to his hand. He used Ice and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, then detached a material from it to Special Summon Bezel Ship. He used Bezel Ship and Ext to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon, destroying Ruvio’s Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained with its effect. Ruvio Chained it to revive Unchained Soul of Rage. Diez was out of gas, and Nightmare Pain forced him to attack Yubel! Yubel and Nightmare Pain each reflected the damage, wiping out Diez’s Life Points!

Duel 2

The first Duel was very complex, leaving just ten minutes on the clock for the next one. Diez began the second Duel with a hand of two copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Time Thief Adjuster, Bezel Ship, and Crossout Designator. He Normal Summoned Bezel Ship, then Special Summoned Adjuster. He stacked his monsters for Ryzeal Duo Drive and used its effect. Ruvio had Ash Blossom, and Diez used Crossout Designator to negate Ash Blossom’s effect by banishing his third copy from his Deck. Duo Drive put Ryzeal Cross and Ext Ryzeal in his hand. He Special Summoned Ext, sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, and added Sword Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Sword to get Ice Ryzeal, and Ruvio had Nibiru, the Primal Being! Diez got a 4500/4200 Primal Being Token. He played Cross, returning two Ryzeals to his Deck to draw another Ice.

Ruvio Normal Summoned Lacrima and used its effect to send Engraver to the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Requiem and activated its effect, and Diez used Ash Blossom to negate it. Ruvio played Nightmare Throne, destroying Spirit of Yubel, and then Special Summoned Yubel with Spirit’s effect. He Special Summoned Engraver by returning Requiem to his Extra Deck. He used Engraver and Yubel to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, and its effect fused Engraver and Lacrima into Aerial Eater. That sent Gruesome Grave Squirmer to the Graveyard. He used Aerial Eater and Sequence to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama, adding Unchained Soul of Sharvara to his hand. He used Squirmer to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel, and Spirit put Nightmare Pain on the field. He used Pain to destroy Spirit and add Samsara D Lotus to his hand. Spirit Special Summoned Yubel, and Nightmare Throne Special Summoned Terror Incarnate. He shuffled Lotus from the hand and Spirit from the Graveyard into his Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel. He moved to the Battle Phase, with his Yubel monsters crashing into the 4500 ATK Primal Being Token and reflecting the damage through Nightmare Pain!

Jesus Ruvio comes out ahead with the power of Yubel!
